• SDKECA Shares Simple Ways to Remove Greasy and Foul Kitchen Odors

As the experts in removing kitchen odors through exhaust vent and range hood cleaning, the San Diego Kitchen Exhaust Cleaners’ Association (SDKECA) has shared during a small business owners’ forum simple ways to get rid of greasy and foul kitchen odors.

SDKECA President Keith Brady says apart from their usual advice on installing a reliable and top quality kitchen exhaust and vent, there are some simple ways to get rid of unwanted kitchen odors that could complement the exhaustion of kitchen fumes being done by kitchen vents and range hoods. “There is actually no need to spray strong perfumed air fresheners because there are alternative solutions that could complement the job being done by the kitchen’s exhaust system. The lowly vinegar for example can absorb these unwanted odors as soon as the sour smell evaporates. Same with coffee beans,” he explains.

Home Improvement website BobVila.com explains how the vinegar trick can work. In the same post, they offered nine other ways to remove foul odors in the kitchen.

“If you’ve recently fried fish or cooked something else particularly pungent, add this trick to your post-dinner cleanup routine: Put a saucepan on the stove and fill it with a cup of water and about three tablespoons of vinegar. Bring the water to a boil and let it boil for several minutes, allowing the steam from the uncovered pot to permeate the kitchen. The vinegary mist should help neutralize the nasty smells.”

Good Housekeeping meantime shared kitchen deodorizing tips in one of its tips. In their online post, they mentioned that sometimes it is not the cooking that causes the unwanted odors in the kitchen. They said that sometimes it could be the trash or even the bin itself.

“Sometimes it's not the actual trash that smells – it's the trash can itself. Clean it by sprinkling in baking soda or using a deodorizing pack or pod, like Fresh Wave, under the can's liner or adhered inside the lid. Then spray it with a disinfecting spray, like Lysol, to kill bacteria.”

Brady reiterates that there is no need to buy expensive home fresheners just to get rid of the stench, as these can even cause illnesses due to its chemical ingredients. Instead homemade solutions like the vinegar steam, or boiling herbs with lemon, or even a coffee mix and letting the scent linger in the kitchen could be the best solutions to complement an effective kitchen exhaust system. Moreover, professional maintenance and cleaning of kitchen exhaust, range and duct work will also ensure that the range hood works at its optimal condition.
